Most probably during the middle ages, when christian were engaged in retaking now a days Spain and Portugal from the Moors, men from the Vallespir with out family name, joined those christian armies of soldier, or perhaps they followed the later on a colonizer of the reconquerd land. Most probably it was both ways. And the place of origin became their last name, and from them on a family name in the process of unification of Spain the name was modified to acomodaticia to the prevailing Castilian language , now a days known as Spanish through out the world. And then we have the VALLESPIN form born, the form Vallespir renamed but in small in numbers, mainly in Cataluna and the Roseton (FRANCE}, then the descendente of those colonizers became local and spread through out Spain and later to the Spanish provinces in America, in Asia. In terms of course the VALLESPIN who could have started the Filipino branch of the family wolf have only a tiny fraction of the the pure Vallespir folk genes, that would be mixed with countless other Spanish genes. But it also possible than this Spanish origin who brought the name to the Philippines simple passing the name to his servants or his or her associates.
